I was
the Welding Department Head at The
Crucible from 1999 through 2006, developed the Crucible's
Welded Sculpture program, and taught both five and ten
week classes that met once a week for three hours. Most
of my students had no previous arc welding, oxy-acetylene
torch cutting, or sculpture experience prior to attending
my class. The course focused on working with steel using
electric ARC welding and oxy-acetylene equipment and hot/cold
bending. Technical skills were emphasized through hands-on
instruction and practice. The students investigated the
different possibilities of metal sculpture through a series
of exercises that presented opportunities for creative
expression and practical use of their newly learned skills.

I currently
teach private welding and metal sculpture lessons at my
studio. It usually takes one 2 hour session to have a basic
knowledge of torch cutting and one 2 hour session for arc
welding. Most students should be able to leave each session
with a small metal sculpture. Twenty to forty high-resolution digital
images of your exciting visit are also included. After
you have acquired the basic skills, future lessons can
adjusted to your needs and goals.
